The battle royale genre's big hitter, Fortnite, launches its fifth season of play, No Man's Sky looks forward to a fourth major update by recapping progress made so far, and Kickstarter success Chasm prepares to plunge players into an underground adventure, while Darksiders III raises its profile ahead of a late 2018 launch and Far Cry 5 heads to Mars in a mid-July expansion.

Fortnite Season 5 Announce Trailer

The fifth season of Fortnite play brings with it a viking ship, a desert area, and rugged golf carts to the game's last-person-standing island and, for those inclined, more opportunities to spend on Battle Passes and the associated cosmetic makeovers. Available now on PC, PS4, XBO, Switch, iOS and Android.

No Man's Sky – 11 Things That Have Changed Since Launch

Speaking of sci-fi, this ambitious interplanetary exploration game endured a difficult launch on PS4 and PC but has significantly improved thanks to three big updates and, hopefully, the upcoming multiplayer update that coincides with a June 24 Xbox One launch.

Chasm Launch Date Trailer

Descend the caverns below a mining town as a rookie knight, and discover the supernatural horrors lurking beneath in this procedurally-generated product of a 2013 Kickstarter campaign. Launches July 31 on PC (Steam via the Humble store) PS4 and Vita.

Darksiders III Flame Hollow Trailer

Where the first two games featured two of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, first War and then Death, this new outing follows War's sister, Fury, who in this promo wields burning flails during her quest to rid the earth of the Seven Deadly Sins. Due on PS4, XBO and WinPC from Nov 27.

Far Cry 5: Lost On Mars teaser trailer

The core Far Cry 5 took place in a realism-focused rural United States when a dangerous cult had taken military control of the local area. That's not stopping this expansion, with its pulp sci-fi comic aesthetic, from teleporting players to Mars to blast alien monsters and save an AI defense system. July 17 on PS4, XBO and PC. — AFP Relaxnews
