Rumour has it that the one of the front cameras on S10 Plus will be used for 3D facial recognition purposes.

In the race to cram as many cameras as possible on a smartphone, Samsung may take the lead as rumours are swirling that it is planning to feature five cameras on the Galaxy S10 Plus.

Although the South Korean tech giant will only release the Galaxy S10 early next year, it hasn’t stopped tech sites from speculating the specs.

First rounds of rumours claim that there will be three versions of the smartphone – entry-level Galaxy S10, regular S10 and S10 Plus. Each version will reportedly have different sets of cameras – and with that, the price – as one of the distinguishing factors.

Android Authority states that the entry-level Galaxy S10 will have two cameras on the back, and one on the front, while the regular S10 will have three rear cameras and one front camera. The showpiece, however, is the S10 Plus which will have not just three rear cameras, but also two front cameras to boot.

What is the second camera for? Android Police assumes that it would be used for 3D facial recognition purposes. However, it wouldn’t be the first Samsung smartphone to have dual front cameras.

That honour goes to the Galaxy A8 which was launched earlier this year. The dual front cameras on the A8 allows users to apply the Bokeh effect to their selfies.

Another Galaxy S10 rumour shared by Tech Radar claims that the device will be the first Samsung smartphone to feature in-screen fingerprint scanner.

Oh well, now we only need to wait for 2019 to see if the rumours will come true.
