With U Mobile’s latest plans, which offer unlimited data for mobile apps, you no longer need to ask cafes for their WiFi password.

The two Giler Unlimited plans – GX50 postpaid and GX30 prepaid – offer unlimited data for apps but a finite amount when the phone is used as a mobile hotspot.

The GX50, which costs RM50 a month, offers 5GB of tethering data and unlimited calls across all networks.

The GX30, at RM30 a month, gives you 3GB of tethering data and 10 minutes of call time each day. Additional calls can be made at RM0.24/minute.
The data speeds also differ – GX50 is capped at 5Mbps (megabits per second), while GX30 prepaid at 3Mbps.

U Mobile product marketing senior general manager Lee Fook Heng says the speeds are good enough for most of its users, and even if they use data hungry apps.

Although data is unlimited, video/music streaming will always be limited to standard definition, in this case at 480p.

Existing prepaid subscribers can activate the GX30 plan from the MyUMobile app or by dialing *118#.

New user can purchase a starter pack for RM8.50 which comes preloaded with RM6 credit and 300MB data,  valid for a week.
