YouTube is dominating social media use for teenagers, as once ubiquitous Facebook fades from popularity, according to a recent survey. A Pew Research Center survey shows that 85 percent of U.S. teens use YouTube, making it the leading social media platform among that age group. It’s followed in use by Instragram and Snapchat at 72 percent and 69 percent, respectively. Facebook use, meanwhile stands at 51 percent among teens. (AP Photo/Patrick Semansky, File)

VIENNA: An Austrian court has ruled that video-sharing platform YouTube can be held partly liable for copyright breaches in videos uploaded by its users, in a ruling that may have far-reaching implications.

In a judgement issued on June 5 and confirmed to AFP on June 7, Vienna’s commercial court said that YouTube had played an active role in spreading such content and therefore could not claim the status of “neutral intermediary”, according to the ruling cited by the Ploil-Boesch law firm.
