Featuring all the bells and whistles expected from a flagship smartphone in 2018, LG's new G7 ThinQ hopes to set itself apart from the likes of Samsung and Huawei with a touch of artificial intelligence.

Set for global release mid-2018, LG's new flagship android smartphone gives users robotic assistance when taking their snaps with a new AI-assisted camera that can automatically detect objects and scenes and adjust the picture settings accordingly.

In addition, a total of 19 recording modes are available, with extensive software also used to enhance image processing.

The improved camera should allow the user to create much sharper and more detailed images than previous entries in LG's G-series with two 16-megapixel sensors – one of which comes with wide-angle optics.

In keeping with current fashion, the top of the phone's 6.1-inch (3120 by 1440 pixels, 19.5:9 format) edge-to-edge screen has a notch – housing the speaker, camera and sensors.

The Korean manufacturers have also focused on improving the sound quality of the G7 with the phone capable of playing in DTS: X quality, while also having a built-in hi-fi audio processor for headphone audio.

The internal speakers also use the interior of the smartphone as a sound box, so the usually underwhelming smartphone sound is said to be improved.

The phone comes with Android 8, the Snapdragon 845 chip, 4 GB RAM and 64 GB of memory. The LG G7 ThinQ will be available in black and grey and go on sale in early June. — dpa
