Not every website was designed to be viewed on a smartphone. But the Reader Mode in the Chrome browser on Android provides one remedy for smartphone users.

Reader Mode blocks out all of the unnecessary elements of a webpage and displays nothing but the text and pictures.

To activate Reader Mode, type "chrome://flags" into the search bar and hit enter. This will open up a new menu.

Tap the three-dot button in the top right corner and look for the "Find in page" option. Then type "Reader". You should then be able to change the Reader Mode settings.

When you visit a website in Reader Mode, a sign indicating that the simplified view is on will be displayed, according to German trade magazine Computerbild.

The Firefox browser on Android also has a Reader View. The button for this – which looks like a sheet of paper with writing on it – can be found directly to the right of the address bar.

And iOS users can also activate a reader mode for websites on their mobile devices. The button for this can be found on the left-hand side of the address box in the Safari browser. — dpa
