Apple has released iOS 11.3, which finally lets users turn off throttling for iPhones with old batteries and also check its health.

According to Apple's support page, the iPhone Battery Health – which is still in beta – will display the battery's maximum capacity and peak performance, and will even recommend if the battery needs to be replaced.

The feature will also indicate if the throttling which Apple calls "performance management feature that dynamically manages maximum performance to prevent unexpected shutdowns" is on and includes the option to disable it.

The update will also better manage iPad charging if it's plugged into power for prolonged periods like when it is used as a POS (point of sale) system so that the battery lasts longer.

These features can be found in Settings under Battery, and are available for iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

Also, iPhone X users will get four new Animoji including a lion, bear, dragon and skull.

The ARKit 1.5 for augmented reality now allows developers to place digital objects on vertical surfaces like walls and doors in addition to horizontal surfaces, and more accurately map irregularly shaped surfaces.

It also introduces better privacy controls, with an icon with a link to detailed information explaining how your data will be used and protected – it will appear whenever an Apple feature asks to use your personal information.

Safari will only auto-fill usernames and passwords after selecting them in a web form field and include warnings in the Smart Search Field when interacting with password or credit card forms on non-encrypted webpages.

Apple Music now streams music videos without ads, with includes friend-finding features that reveal genres people enjoy and mutual friends that follow them.

The App Store can now sort customer reviews on product pages by most helpful, most favourable, most critical, or most recent.
