‘Lord of the Rings’ effects company branches into mixed-reality games

Weta Workshop, the Oscar-winning special effects company behind movie blockbusters such as The Lord of the Rings, Blade Runner 2049 and Avatar, is expanding into the world of gaming. 

The New Zealand company has teamed up with Florida-based based augmented-reality startup Magic Leap for with the newly-launched Weta Gameshop, which aims at releasing so-called "mixed-reality experiences."
