Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 845 mobile processor will soon allow smartphone users to simultaneously stream music to multiple devices through Bluetooth.

The so-called Broadcast Audio technology will be able to transmit music from a smartphone to several sets of headphones or loudspeakers, the company announced ahead of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

This means you could play music in several rooms without requiring a multi-room system. Museums and city tour providers may also use this in lieu of a more traditional audio guide system.

Broadcast Audio is also supposed to make it easier for users to pair and manage Bluetooth devices. Several smartphones featuring the new chip were launched at the trade fair in Barcelona, among them Samsung's Galaxy S9 and Sony's Xperia XZ2. — dpa
