Painting by numbers made almost everyone an artist in the 1990s. Now the app Pixel Art is allowing users to follow in the footsteps of artists such as Andy Warhol, who famously used this children's technique for his own work.

By swiping your fingers across the screen, you can paint images of cars, plants, animals and other scenes. It's actually quite relaxing and entertaining after a while.

Anyone who gets annoyed by the advertising that pops up every now can have it removed for a small fee. Pixel Art is available for Android and iOS. — dpa
