In the absence of official figures from Cupertino, the only stats on Apple Watch shipments come from tech analysts Canalys. The firm reports that 18 million of Apple's wearables shipped globally in 2017, up 54% on last year. Never before has a brand shifted so many smartwatches in a single year.

The year's figures are boosted in particular by Apple's Series 3 models, which alone account for almost half of (48%) Apple Watch shipments in 2017. Shipments of watches with cellular connectivity (4G) reached 2.4 million.
