Amazon’s pointless obsession with cashiers: opinion

Now that Amazon has finally opened its cashier-free version of a 7-Eleven, it's worth asking why it’s so determined to focus on an imperfect solution to a non-existent problem. Especially while it neglects Amazon Fresh, which could have a much bigger impact on retail. 

Amazon Go, which opened in Seattle on Jan 22 after more than a year of testing, is an exciting demonstration of technology. It took months to figure out how to track customers' movements with dozens of cameras and to rig weight sensor-equipped shelves that prevent shoplifting. But does it change much at all for shoppers or retailers?
