Mobile office is the way to go and jumping on the bandwagon is DingTalk, a collaboration and messaging app for small- to medium-sized businesses from Alibaba Group.
Launched in 2015, DingTalk is currently used in over five million organisations in China and was only available in Mandarin until now.
“Malaysia is the first market to get DingTalk in English. Our focus is very much on building the necessary support foundation for enterprises who aim to step-change their business communications,” said DingTalk chief technology officer Hugo Zhu in a statement. “It is a platform that combines all workplace tools in one place, allowing collaborations and tracking on both the employer and employee’s level.”
Some of DingTalk’s features include the ability to support up to 3,000 members in a single group chat, with all types of messages displaying read/unread statuses. There is also a Secret Chat mode where once read, the message will automatically delete itself after 30 seconds.
It can also support multi-party voice conferences with up to 50 participants, while the video conferencing feature can accommodate up to 16 members at a time. DingTalk’s voice and video services are currently only available via VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) for users outside of China.
The app also boasts a clocking-in and out system with a geotagging feature that tracks employees’ whereabouts, and a Cloud-based file system that makes for quick and easy file saving and sharing between colleagues.
DingTalk also allows for address book sharing, where users can view and contact everyone in the organisation, including contacts outside the organisation such as business partners and suppliers.
It can also handle requests for leave, applications for business trips or reimbursements, allowing users to submit, view and keep track of all their applications.
DingTalk is one of the first Chinese apps to have obtained the ISO/IEC 27001:2013 standard, a globally recognised data security benchmark, and data is encrypted to provide high-level communications security.
Good news for all employers out there, DingTalk is available for free on iOS, Android, Mac and Windows operating systems.
