Google wants to beef up the security standards for Android apps. From August 2018 onwards, the Play Store will only accept new apps that support the latest Android functions, the company said in a statement.
The same rule will also apply to updates for apps already available in the store starting November 2018. But it won’t affect existing apps that aren't getting updates.
The new rule aims to ensure that apps meet current security and performance standards, helping developers protect users from malware.
For users, this will mean not only more security but also more control over the access rights of apps. — dpa
