Wilkerson's fame can be traced back to a Twitter challenge he posted last month to get 18 million retweets for a year's supply of free Wendy's nuggets. Pictured is Wilkerson on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

United's attempt to lighten up the mood and get in on a kid's viral Wendy's nuggets campaign has backfired, showing that people are still angry about the debacle in which a paying passenger was violently dragged off their plane last month.

After it emerged that Carter Wilkerson, a 16-year-old American teenager, broke the world record for garnering the most retweets with his campaign for free Wendy's nuggets this week, United Airlines decided to join in the viral frolic.
