This year's PlayStation Experience weekend brought with it plenty of big name franchises, including trailers for upcoming games The Last of Us Part II, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Yakuza 6 and franchise debut remake.
Yakuza Kiwami, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, glossy driving game Gran Turismo Sport, and bombastic airborne experience Ace Combat 7.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
Just when you think a franchise might be reaching its accolade-studded conclusion, along comes a coda like The Lost Legacy. Developer Naughty Dog pulled a similar trick with The Last of Us: Left Behind and here it's Uncharted support Chloe Frazer who becomes the lead, with Uncharted 4 rival Nadine Ross also featuring. 2017 on PlayStation 4. Watch the trailer here.
The Last of Us Part II
Speaking of The Last of Us, here's a direct sequel for the acclaimed original in which Ellie swaps roles with Joel, becoming the main character, apparently determined to rid a fungus-infected country of its biggest blight – which turn out to be an outlaw faction encountered in the 2013 original. Release TBA.Watch the trailer here.
Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza 6: The Song of Life
The Yakuza franchise may not have the clout of Grand Theft Auto outside of Asia but it's the same principle within a network of organised crime – underworld empire-building shenanigans in highly detailed Japanese locations, stuffed to the gills with numerous distractions. Yakuza Kiwami is, at last, a mid-2017 PS4 complete remake of the 2005 original; Yakuza 6 the franchise's latest, due in Japan from Dec 8 and internationally in 2018.Watch the trailer here.
Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite
An epic punch-up between some of Marvel's best known comic book and movie characters (Iron Man and Captain Marvel in the trailer) and Capcom's video game roster (Ryu from Street Fighter and the Mega Man franchise's title character.) MvC games usually feature several dozen characters, and this is likely no exception. MvC: Infinite is due 2017 while 2011's Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 launched for PS4 on December 3 ahead of an Xbox One and PC release in March. Watch the trailer here.
Gran Turismo Sport
The motor racing franchise's first step onto PS4 means updated graphics – 4K and HDR standards – plus virtual reality option, becoming a vehicle for the new PlayStation 4 Pro console and PlayStation VR headset in the process. Expected 2017 on PS4. Watch the trailer here.
Ace Combat 7
The Ace Combat series looks to be returning to the fictional settings that helped it gain such a cult following, with sumptuous visuals, operatic scores, and a blend of real-world warplanes with ridiculously oversized flying battleships and superweapons. Expected 2017 on PS4. Watch the trailer here.
