The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) is bringing the big guns in the gaming industry for its Level Up KL 2016 gaming conference which will be held from Nov 5 to 9.
Streamline Studios CEO Alexander Fernandez, Bushiroad SEA chief operating officer Atsuo Nakayama, Unity Technologies vice president of engineering Brett Bibby and GameFounders co-founder Kadri Ugand are just some of the international speakers that will be at the conference.
Top Malaysian talents will also be present, including Video Game Orchestra audio engineer Falk Au Yeong, Square Enix lead game designer for Final Fantasy XV Wan Hazmer, Lemon Sky Games and Animation CEO Wong Cheng-Fei, and Passion Republic president Ng Aik Sern.
In total there will be a mix of 40 international and local speakers – MDEC is hoping that the conference will help the local game developers network with the best in the industry.
“We have always been gung-ho in pushing for the development of the gaming industry, but there is still a lot to be done,” said MDEC director of creative content and technologies Hasnul Hadi Samsudin.
Hasnul said the conference will also help showcase the vibrant local games development ecosystem to an international audience.
Attendees can also get certified as a professional Unity Developer. Unity is a popular game engine – it was used to make Deus Ex: The Fall and Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft .
There will also be a SEA Game Jam, a 36-hour game hackathon where developers can get together to design games to stand a chance to win cash prizes. The first prize is RM8,000.
Taking place for the second year, the event is expected to attract more than 400 participants and will also feature sessions on content development, fundraising, marketing and business development.
