Google is paying tribute to the 100th anniversary of the Trans-Siberian Railway with a Doodle animation that chronicles the making of the historic railway.
Oct 5 marks a century since its completion. It took 26 years to finish the railway which traverses 6,000 miles and seven time zones between Moscow and Vladivostok.
The journey from western Russia to the Pacific Ocean takes seven days. In addition to connecting the country's small villages and big cities, it remains a critical facet of Russian trade with Europe and China, notes Google.
To mark the occasion, Google sent ‘Doodler' Matt Cruickshank on the cross-country journey in April, where he sketched out images for the animation.
