Existing fans of the ongoing Pokémon franchise will be able to transfer legacy Pokémon over to Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, but not until January 2017. 

As 13th and 14th core entries to the 20-year-old Pokémon franchise, Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon are being prepared for a worldwide launch from Nov 18 (or Nov 23 in European regions).
