Lyft wins approval of driver settlement from US judge

SAN FRANCISCO: A US judge granted preliminary approval to ride service Lyft's US$27mil (RM111.20mil) settlement of a class action lawsuit brought by California drivers who claimed they should be deemed employees instead of independent contractors. 

US District Judge Vince Chhabria in San Francisco had previously rejected a US$12.25mil (RM50.50mil) deal as too small.
