Tencent Holdings Ltd’s smartwatch for kids – QQ Watch – has just been launched here.
The watch, which has a large 1.22in display and colourful design, allows parents to communicate with their child just like a smartphone.
Additionally, parents can capture photos with the built-in 3-megapixel camera and record audio without the wearer’s knowledge. This feature is particularly handy in emergencies, the company says.
The smartwatch also has built-in GPS so parents can monitor the whereabouts of the child, including the places he or she has visited.
They can also set safe and dangerous zones – if the kid goes beyond the safe zone or enters a dangerous zone, the parents will be notified immediately.
The smartwatch, which is IP65 certified for water proofing, features a pedometer for tracking steps, distance and calories burned.
The watch is rated to last about three to five days on a single charge, and can be paired with an Android smartphone or iPhone.
Child safety activist K. Balasupramaniam, also known as Captain Bala, said that more than 3,000 kids go missing in Malaysia every year and parents should be more concerned about such cases.
“The QQ Watch with its safety features such as location tracking and built-in camera is an ideal safety device for kids up to 12 years old,” he says.
Sibyl World Sdn Bhd is the exclusive business partner for QQ Watch in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia, and expects the watches to hit stores by the end of the month
Sibyl will also have a one-month promo where the watch will go for RM499 (inclusive of GST) instead of the normal price of RM569.
