Tentacle Technologies MSC Sdn Bhd has managed to score a first in the oil and gas industry with its Pipe (Pre-emptive Incident Predictor Engine) solution.
The company, which developed the solution with the aid of Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), uses Big Data Analytic to predict equipment, sensor and machine failures in advance.
To date there is no other system available on the market which can link multiple equipment with multiple forms of data to predict machine failure in real time, said Tentacle Technologies managing director Manohar Pandian.
Upon deployment, Pipe will be able to provide insights into complex and critical scenarios from structured and unstructured data captured from the various sensors and sources, he added.
Pipe’s accuracy varies as the system is dependent on machine learning algorithm, but at initial deployment it is expected to hit an accuracy rate of higher than 70% before reaching 95% in just a year.
In the long run, Pipe brings reduction in maintenance cost and shutdown time, as well as increase in productivity, he said.
“Even a small breakdown can cause tangible and intangible losses in millions. As per our understanding on the industry, even one prediction a year is good enough to save significant amount of money,” he said.
According to Pandian, incidents such as the gas leak in Kertih, Terengganu that left one dead and three injured and the equipment disaster in the Gulf of Mexico that cost over US$20bil (RM88bil) could be minimised with the use of Pipe.
Tentacle Technologies expects to deploy Pipe in the third quarter of 2016.
