Nigeria slashes MTN fine over SIM cards disconnections

Reduced rate: MTN only has to pay a fine of US$3.4bil (RM14.36bil), down from an earlier US$5.2bil (RM21.96bil), for the 5.1 million unregistered SIM cards it failed to disconnect in time.

JOHANNESBURG: The Nigerian Communications Commission has sharply reduced a hefty penalty slapped on South African telecoms giant MTN over unregistered SIM cards, the company said. 

The Commission is now looking for a fine of US$3.4bil (RM14.36bil), down from an earlier US$5.2bil (RM21.96bil), after negotiations with the regulator, it said.
