Alibaba's Jack Ma in talks for stake in SCMP publisher

Newspaper man?: The Alibaba head honcho is eyeing the South China Morning Post.

SHANGHAI: Jack Ma, founder and executive chairman of Alibaba Group Holding Ltd, is in talks to buy a stake in the publisher of Hong Kong's South China Morning Post, Bloomberg reported citing unidentified sources familiar with the matter.

Bloomberg said the discussions were at an advanced stage and a signing ceremony would be announced soon. It did not give financial details of the deal.

An Alibaba spokesman declined to comment. SCMP officials were not immediately available for comment. — Reuters
