Going underground: The free App of the Day service exists in a new format in new app aggregator called Underground.

The new Amazon Underground app was quietly rolled out Aug 26, and the popular Free App of the Day section was removed.

It may look like Amazon has removed its Free App of the Day, but the service exists in a new format in the new app aggregator, Underground. The feature regroups all of Amazon's apps, games and in-app items that cost absolutely nothing: no hidden charges, no paying for extra levels.

Explaining how it has managed to secure over ten thousand dollars-worth of free media, the Underground team state that they have "made this possible by working out a new business model with app and game developers .... Just look for games and apps marked with an 'Actually Free' banner."

At time of writing the application was only downloadable via the Amazon Underground site, not Google Play.— AFP Relaxnews
