PRESTIGIOUS TITLE: Foursquare's gamification feature gives the title of mayor to the most frequent visitors of cafes, restaurants and bars.

Foursquare offshoot Swarm, a real-time check-in service that allows users to see where their friends are, has re-introduced the popular Mayorship feature to the delight of early fans.

Popular among early Foursquare adopters, the gamification feature bestowed the title of mayorship to the most frequent visitors of cafes, restaurants and bars, etc allowing users to compete against all other users.

When Foursquare launched spinoff Swarm, the game was limited to friends.

In a blog post this week, Foursquare acknowledged that the game just "wasn't as much fun," and has opened up the game to users of the entire network.

To be crowned mayor, users will have to check in more than anyone else at a venue in the last 30 days. — AFP Relaxnews
