MAKING FACES: MirrorMe3D offers 3D printings of your own face, in life size for US300 (RM1,124).

Sure, you can already print a 3D figurine of yourself, or anyone else for that matter, after head-to-toe scanning, but now an American start-up is offering to print exact facial replicas, from small to life size.

This new service targets curious individuals as well as health professionals who can now benefit from having tactile materials (pre/post-surgery for example) to show their clients instead of their traditional "books." 3D technology in fact allows for much closer inspection of the effects of plastic surgery and the transformations that result.

MirrorMe3D was founded by Carrie Stern, a plastic surgeon, and the process couldn't be simpler: simply scan a face and print it in 3D. It's even possible to print only selected parts of the face, concentrating, for example, on the areas around the nose and mouth.

Use of this new technology should be aided by the fact that many surgeons already have 3D printers. As for individuals, they can take advantage of an online solution for plastic surgery 3D simulation, Crisalix, a partner of MirrorMe3D.

For now, the site offers three different print sizes (small, medium, large), ranging from US$60 (RM224.65) to US$300 (RM1,125) . Zooming in on a particular part of the face can be done starting at US$115 (RM431.15), and this same technology, adapted to the chest, is offered starting at US$60 (RM224.65). — AFP Relaxnews
