BIG BONUS: Shin's total 2014 compensation, disclosed in Samsung's annual report filed on March 31, was 14.57bil won (RM48.69mil). This included a base salary of 1.73bil won (RM5.78mil) and 3.73bil won (RM12.47mil) in incentives.

SEOUL: Samsung Electronics Co Ltd paid co-chief executive J.K. Shin, who oversaw the company's ascent to the top of the smartphone market, US$13mil (RM48mil) in 2014, more than double what he received in the previous year.

The increase was largely due to a special bonus payment following Samsung's record profits in 2013. Samsung suffered its first annual profit decline in three years in 2014, as operating income from the mobile division fell 42%.
