Not long after unveiling their first product -- a ring-shaped fertility awareness sensor -- it was announced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas that Prima-Temp has won the 2014 Venture+ Forum mHealth Pitch competition for start-ups.
Called Bloom, it tracks basal body temperature, communicating the readings to a corresponding app that notifies the wearer of her most fertile days.
The device does not require approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) although it will be required to follow a set of guidelines, according to local news source Boulderopolis.
The Colorado-based company has not given any hints as to when it will be available, but not having to seek FDA approval will ease the process, and chief executive officer Lauren Constantini told Boulderopolis that the device, which lasts for one month would cost less than UD$200 (RM713) per ring.
Prima-Temp, which specialises in continuous temperature monitoring, was selected for the competition based on its demonstrated impact and quantifiable results for improving healthcare, according to a press release from mHealth Summit.
Other products in the works at Prima-Temp include wireless, continuous temperature monitoring to detect infections, organ rejection and heat stroke at the earliest possible moment, and products to help with sleep disorders and weight loss.
According to mHealth, Prima-Temp will be a featured presenter at the seventh annual 2015 mHealth Summit in November. — AFP/RelaxNews 2014
