Uber suspends amateur taxi service in Spain

SPANISH SUSPENSION: Founded in 2009 in California, Uber has grown fast, luring passengers away from regular taxis.

MADRID: Popular web-based taxi company Uber has suspended its amateur driver service in Spain after it received confirmation of a court ruling to ban it in the country. 

UberPOP, which allows non-professional drivers with their own cars to take on passengers at budget rates, via a mobile app, started in Spain in April.
