STRESS LEVEL MONITOR: Olive, the stress management wearable

An aesthetically pleasing new wearable called Olive has raised more than three quarters of its crowd-funding goal of US$100,000 (RM325,000) and it's only been a week since founders launched their campaign.

If this has you asking whether the crowd-funding hype over this product points to innovative technology or to society's burgeoning stress levels, the answer is a little of both.

Like other wearables, the device monitors heart rate, heart rate variability, skin temperature, perspiration, ambient light and respiration, but this one uses that data to analyse your stress levels. For example, its motion sensors analyse your muscle tension rather than counting steps.

It analyses your activity and sleep habits and provides feedback on what you might need more or less of, and in a big-brother move, it synchronises with your smartphone's calendar and GPS locator to analyse your lifestyle.

It's still possible to pre-order Olive at a discounted price of US$129 (RM422). Shipping is expected in November 2015 and orders outside the US should add US$25 (RM82) for shipping and handling. Go here for more info.—AFP/RelaxNews 2014
