MAKE AN IMPACT: DiGi is calling for all Malaysians aged 12 years and above to create community-centric mobile apps which

SHAH ALAM: DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (DiGi) has announced its fifth Challenge for Change (CFC) programme. The annual event brings together Malaysian innovators and app developers to create community-centric mobile apps which “bring Malaysians together for positive change.”

Built on the theme of “Bringing Malaysians together, one app at a time,” DiGi is calling for all Malaysians aged 12 years and above to submit their ideas and apps for this programme.

Participants can make submissions under four categories: Learning and edutainment, health and wellness, discovering culture, and connected citizens.

The programme will be carried out in two phases. During the Ideation Challenge, which will run from Nov 27 to Jan 18, members of the public can submit ideas for CFC while workshops will be held in universities across the country to encourage participation.

A two day “idea hackathon,” #IDEAJAM, will then be held where 20 ideators will be shortlisted and invited to interact with leading industry experts to refine their ideas. Subsequently, the best four ideas would be selected for app development.

In the next phase, known as the App Development Challenge, DiGi will call upon developers to build apps based on the four ideas that had been selected from the earlier phase. A 36-hour mobile app hackathon weekend called HACK!@DiGiCFC will also be held. This phase will run from 26 Jan to 24 April 2014.

Apps developed during this time will be made accessible to the public for download and review. Finally, the most popular apps will be chosen as winners of the challenge.

Prizes up for grabs in DiGiCFC include the following:
• RM5,000 and a smartphone each for the top four idea finalists
• RM25,000 for winning apps in each of the four categories
• RM25,000 for best overall idea (winner of DiGi Innovation Award)
• Telenor Group Award for best developer or team.

The challenge is being organised in partnership with 1Malaysia for Youth (iM4U), the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP), Digital Malaysia, Google Malaysia and Microsoft Malaysia.
