What a gamer wants

STAY FOCUSED: Black Ops II boasts a longer campaign and improved multiplayer.

Videogames are becoming as popular as movies and will make a great gift for this holiday season.

NO holiday gift guide would be complete without videogames. This year’s list spans many genres and platforms which should make any gamer happy.

Here’s some of the latest and best games of the year that’ll make a great gift for your loved ones.

CoD: Black Ops II (PC, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U) One of the biggest shooters for this year, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, is full of surprises. The engaging single-player campaign will take you across multiple continents to stop a mad man from destroying the world.

With a longer action-packed campaign that clocks in close to 10 hours and branching story paths, this is a game that you’ll want to replay a few times.

There’s also the multiplayer mode which is arguably one of the best in the videogame industry and it should keep you busy till year end at least.

Plus, the Zombie mode is back with a few cool enhancements.

The stellar game will make a great gift for any first-person shooter fan and it’s available for almost all the popular systems.

Halo 4 (Xbox 360) Halo fans have been waiting a long time for the return of Master Chief.

He is back after a four-year slumber to face not only his old foe, the Covenant, but also a mysterious new alien breed called the Prometheans.

The fight won’t be easy, as the Chief’s AI companion, Cortana, is going insane because she is going to “die.”

Besides the campaign there’s the addictive multiplayer component, as well as continuing Spartan Ops episodes where you get to team up with friends to fight the alien invaders.

If you are buying a gift for an Xbox 360 owner, you can’t go wrong with this exclusive title for the system.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown (PC, Xbox 360, PS3) If you are looking for a strategy game then XCOM: Enemy Unknown is the title to get even if the person is new to the XCOM series.

In Enemy Unknown the player is the commander in charge of an elite alien fighting organisation called XCOM. You will have to take the fight to the alien invaders by capturing, researching and learning new technologies to give you an edge in battle.

The original game’s notorious Iron Man difficulty is also present if he or she needs that extra bit of challenge.

LittleBigPlanet (PS Vita) LittleBigPlanet for the PS Vita takes Sackboy and his friends on a new adventure across 40 levels. Similar to the console version, Sackboy and the world around him can be customised.

The game also has a nifty tool for whipping up your levels. The player can also team up with three other friends via WiFi to play the levels you or others have created.

This polished and addictive game will keep any PS Vita owner busy while on the go.

The Walking Dead (Most platforms) The immensely popular Walking Dead TV series has its very own videogame. The point-and-click adventure game has Lee Everett teaming up with a rag-tag group of survivors to face a harsh new world infested with Zombies.

Walking Dead is less about action and more about the choices and interactions the player has with the other survivors, but it’ll have him or her gripping the edge of the seat nonetheless.

Go old school with this game which is available on most platforms such as PCs, consoles, and even mobile devices.
