Star Citizen smashes through funding goal

OVERWHELMING RESPONSE: Star Citizen's website struggled under the load of interest after fans started weighing in to help with the game’s costs.

Star Citizen, a new game from the creator of classic space games Wing Commander (1990), Privateer (1993) and Freelancer (2003), has broken through its initial US$2mil (RM6) fundraising target with three weeks to spare.

Chris Roberts, credited with lead design duties on those three classic games, left the games industry at the turn of the century and went into film — his work there ranged from directing Freddie Prinze Jr. in a Wing Commander adaptation to producing the Nicolas Cage gun-running flick Lord of War.
