LENOVO will be shipping its latest IdeaPad and ThinkPad notebooks next month, each geared for two different market segments.

The IdeaPad Y480 is for movie enthusiasts and gamers who are looking for a mean multimedia machine and the ThinkPad Edge E430 is a productivity workhorse that is suited for small and medium businesses (SMBs).

The Y480 has a 14in HD screen with a resolution of 1,366 x 768-pixels. It is powered by an Intel Core i7-3610QM processor, and has 4GB RAM and a 1TB or 750GB hard drive.

For extra punch in the graphics department it includes an nVidia GeForce GT640M 2GB chip which supports the latest DirectX 11 games and HD video editing.

To complete the experience, it also has Dolby Home Theatre v4 audio technology and a pair of JBL speakers to provide virtual surround sound.

It even has a handy button called the OneKey Theatre II which optimises the display and audio automatically when watching movies.

The 720p HD webcam has face tracking, night view for low light conditions and microphone for video calls. Other standards features include two USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0 ports, a HDMI slot and a card reader.

Meanwhile SMBs get a choice of four Intel Core processors — i7-3612QM, i5-3210M, i5-2520M or i3-2370M — for their E430 notebook to suit their business needs and budgets.

The notebook can be configured with up to 4GB RAM, up to 750GB hard disk space and either a graphics chip from Intel or nVidia.

The E430 has a 14in LED screen, two USB 2.0 and three USB 3.0 ports, a HDMI out, and a card reader.

The notebook is bundled with PC maintenance tools such PC Health Centre to monitor the notebook’s operation, Software Monitor to alert owners when the notebook has been compromised and USB Blocker to prevent some USB devices from being used with the notebook.

The prices for the IdeaPad Y480 and Edge E430 start from RM2,499 and RM2,399 respectively.
