Sony Malaysia has kicked off the Gran Turismo 5 Asia Tournament today.
The first preliminary round takes place at its 3-day PlayStation 3 Gaming Experience roadshow in Berjaya Times Square which ends on Sunday.
The company will also organise 11 more preliminary rounds at Sony Centre outlets across the country from Dec 19 to Jan 15.
The winner of each round will battle it out at the national final on Jan 22 at The Curve shopping centre.
The national winner will take home a 42in Sony Bravia 3D HDTV as well as represent Malaysia to compete in Taipei against the best from Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Korea and Taiwan.
Sony has yet to finalise the grand prize for the tournament.
For the uninitiated, GT is a racing simulator developed by Polyphony Digital and first published by Sony Computer Entertainment in 1997.
The latest installation not only boasts immersive 3D experience and realistic car designs but also includes several cool new features such as weather changes, day and night racing and car damage.
Also, GT5 has over 1,000 cars such as Lexus LFA and McLaren MP4-12C, and features 20 race tracks such as Suzuka, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Top Gear test track and Nordschleife.
The standard edition of GT5 retails for RM218,
