PADANG BESAR: The Felda Chuping Community Broadband Centre has received positive response from the public, recording 11,000 visitors since it started operating two months ago.
Celcom Mobile Sdn Bhd Northern Region vice-president Saiful Bahrin Abd Ghaffar said the centre, which also acts as a broadband service training centre for the rural community, cost RM3mil to build.
The centre, which operates daily from 9am to 6pm with the co-operation of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, has 600 members registered. It also offers basic training in Internet usage, website building and online tuition for students.
Saiful said Celcom will establish 37 other community broadband centres in six states, comprising 13 in Sabah, 12 in Johor, six in Negeri Sembilan, three in Perlis, two in Sarawak and one in Kedah, within the next five years.
This pioneer centre in Felda Chuping was officially opened by Perlis Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Md Isa Sabu yesterday.
