MTV hires first ‘Twitter Jockey’

LOS ANGELES: After a talent search online and votes by fans for a favorite, MTV will launch its first TJ or Twitter Jockey. A take-off on its VJ/video jock, the new position is for online talent.

The winner is 23-year-old Gabi Gregg, who was selected last weekend by viewers across the United States. She is the founder of a fashion blog, Young, Fat and Fabulous (www.youngfatandfabulous.com), which serves plus-size girls “because mainstream media needs curvy girls.”

Gregg was interviewed by the New York Times and TV show Good Morning America, and has been featured fashion magazines such as French Glamour and Vogue Italia.

After narrowing it down to the finalists, the five were brought to Manhattan and put through four challenges.

At Tweet-up Meet-ups, for instance, they staged events including Gabi’s fashion show, Dannielle’s waterfront artsfest, Xavier’s concert, Ryan’s swanky charity drive, and Jose’s benefit performance. Gregg will report on pop culture news using Twitter, Facebook, blogs and MTV’s website. — Relaxnews
