PETALING JAYA: Networking giant Cisco Malaysia has partnered with Teliti Datacentres, a local systems integrator, to build what they claim will be the largest green datacentre in Asia.
To be located at the Enstek high-technology business park in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, the facility will take up a whopping 120,000sq ft when completed.
Cisco Malaysia managing director Anne Abraham said, the company is sharing its next-generation datacentre network architecture expertise and best practices to help Teliti develop a unified, highly available and energy-efficient datacentre.
The aim is not to only build a world-class infrastructure in Malaysia but also a green facility, in line with the country’s ambition to reduce its carbon emissions by 40% in two years, she said.
The Teliti datacentre will boast environmentally friendly systems for its day-to-day operations, including utilising solar energy to partly power its equipment and collecting rainwater for its cooling systems.
Both companies held a groundbreaking ceremony recently and construction of the building is expected to start soon.
“The initial development phase — comprising a 45,000sq ft area — is targeted for completion in December 2011, and we will begin operations in 2012,” said Mohamed Nasir Abdul Majid, managing director of Teliti Computers Sdn Bhd, Teliti Datacentre’s parent company.
Development of the remaining 75,000sq ft will follow after that.
Some of the key services that the datacentre will offer are co-location, connectivity and hosting services, with a wide range of managed services such as network security, disaster recovery and business continuity.
Also, clients can expect a reliable and multiple-redundant power supply to enable a 99.999% uptime for all equipment, as well as smart cooling systems.
Mohamed Nasir believes Teliti’s collaboration with Cisco will appeal to businesses, particularly multinationals, that need to comply with increasingly stringent environmental requirements.
Teliti also plans to extend its datacentre services to the regional market, targeting customers in nearby Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong.
