KUALA LUMPUR: Belkin has unveiled a slew of 802.11n wireless routers, namely the Basic, Surf, Share and PlayMax models.
The routers, which offer speeds of up to 300Mbps, are based on the WPS/WPA2 (WiFi Protected Setup/Wireless Protected Access 2) encryption standards. These models come pre-set with a unique security code to prevent unwanted users from joining the network and using the bandwidth.
The company said the routers provide “3D whole-home” coverage, which means users are assured of a consistent signal even through walls and floors in the house.
The best part is, the routers (depending on the model), are bundled with applications that would enhance the user’s wireless experience.
The Self Healing app, for example, ensures that users will have the best wireless Internet connection. Here, the application will automatically detect and resolve network problems.
It also runs routine maintenance scans to ensure that users would have the clearest wireless channel to surf the Internet, Belkin claimed.
With the Memory Safe app, users can automatically back-up their photos and important files to their external hard drive. Print Genie, on the hand, allows users to print wirelessly from any computer on the network from anywhere in the home.
The Music Mover app plays MP3s from a music library on the home stereo wirelessly. This application transmits music from an external drive connected to the router to any UPnP (Universal Plug-and-Play) or DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance)-compatible device such as an Xbox 360 or PlayStation3.
Other applications are Music Labeler, Daily DJ, Torrent Genie and Bit Boost.
Music Labeler automatically identifies and labels the music track with the correct title, artiste, and genre. Daily DJ provides daily personalised playlists from the music library based on the user’s mood. Torrent Genie helps downloads large media files like movies, music, and games even when the computer is not switched on.
Bit Boost helps to prioritise traffic on the network for video, gaming and VoIP calls. This application allows you to allocate the necessary network bandwidth to activities (such as gaming) that you use regularly, Belkin said.
The Basic and Surf models come with the Self Healing app. The Share model comes with Self Healing, Memory Safe and Print Genie. The PlayMax has all eight applications.
The prices were not available at press time but Belkin said that the routers will be available locally by the middle of next month.
