No pain but gain

An actress decides to tackle her problem spots, so as to look good for her big day.

IN her work, looking good is a prerequisite. So, despite her busy schedule, this actress has been exercising and lifting weights several times a week for years.

“Somehow, I never managed to lose any weight, but only built up muscles,” says Umi Kalthom Rahmad, popularly known as Umie Aida, in Kuala Lumpur recently.

She started her career at 18 after becoming a finalist in the Dewi Remaja contest in 1990. Touted as the queen of epic films and dramas, she was named the Best Actress at the 16th Malaysian Film Festival for Embun and nominated for Best Actressfor Embun and Best Supporting Actress for Qaisy & Laila at the Asia Pacific Film Festivals in 2002 and 2005, respectively.

A svelte-looking Umie, 37, was recently named spokesperson for Swiss slimming brand, Marie France Bodyline. Its treatment taps the body’s ability to burn excess fat, thus dispensing with strict diets, strenuous exerice or pills. Fellow spokespersons are Canadian Chinese model and actress Christy Chung, and Singapore actress and entrepreneur Irene Ang.

A mother of two boys, whom she adopted when she was 20, Umie tied the knot two months ago with entrepreneur, Datuk Paduka Khairuddin Abu Hassan. She was preparing for her wedding when Marie France Bodyline approached her.

Umie Aida... enjoys her food but does not overeat.

Mindful of her problem areas – her arms, tummy and thighs – she accepted its offer of a slimming treatment.

During her first consultation in November 2009, Umie was advised to stop weight exercises as they would bulk up her muscles, making her appear larger.

“Measurements of my problem areas were taken before and after my first treatment. The reading was lower after the first session.. It was not a huge difference, but it was encouraging,” she says.

“I enjoy going to spas and this felt like a similar pampering experience. All I had to do was lie down and they did all the work!”

After two months, Umie reportedly shed 5kg and 13.5 inches.

Umie is pleased that she can still enjoy her food, but she is careful not to overeat.

Inspired by Umie’s results, Marie France Bodyline has launched The Perfect Bride contest for women who are planning to get married between October 2010 and June 2011.

The bride with the most dramatic transformation will win an all-expense-paid honeymoon package to the Maldives for two, plus other exciting prizes. Participants must register by June 18. For details, go to www.mariefrancebodylinecontest.com.my.
