Juniors do country proud with success in Thailand

JOHOR BARU: Malaysia’s junior shuttlers also did the country proud yesterday when they smashed their way to four titles in the Smiling Fish Thailand International Series in Trang yesterday.

Just an hour after World No. 1 Lee Chong Wei nailed the fourth title in the Malaysian Open Grand Prix Gold here, Bukit Jalil Sports School’s (BJSS) top player Soong Joo Ven continued to show his pedigree as a future star by landing his first international title with a 21-14, 17-21, 21-18 win over Thailand’s Khosit Phetpradab in a match lasting one hour and 10 minutes.

Malaysia also topped the mixed doubles (Wong Fai Yin-Shevon Jemie Lai), women’s singles (Florah Ng Sew Fong) and men’s doubles (Darren Isaac Devadass-Tai An Khang) in the senior international tournament.
