Up close and personal with Datuk Maznah Hamid

Some people grow up with opportunities served to them on a silver platter while some are given an enrolment into the “school of hardship” where they have to strive three times harder to reach their goals.

Often, many of the latter go on to be successful not only academically, but financially. An example of one of these tough cookies is the founder and executive chairman of Securiforce, Datuk Maznah Hamid.

Big dreams

Born and bred in Kedah, Maznah had a simple village childhood in Air Hitam. However, her childhood was not all sugar and spice as her parents divorced when she was just five years old, leaving her in the care of her grandmother.

“My grandmother was very conservative. She encouraged me to study well to get a decent job and then settle down with a good husband. But I wanted to be more,” Maznah tells StarBizWeek.
