Game over as Yih Wey sinks in the pool

NATIONAL swimmer Lew Yih Wey was consigned to an early flight home after clocking 4:55.83 in the women’s 400m individual medley competition at National Aquatic Centre last night.

Yih Wey only finished third with her effort in Heat 1, well outside her national record of 4:50.52.

She set the national record in the Malaysian Open in May, which earned her qualification for the Beijing Olympics.

South Korea’s Nam Yoo-sun won Heat 1 in 4:46.74 while Singapore’s Quah Ting Wen finished second in 4:51.25.

Short stint: Lew Yih Wey clocked 4:55.83 in the 400m to finish third in Heat 1.

Daniel Bego and Khoo Cai Lin will go into action today.

Daniel, who will swim in three events, will compete in the 200m freestyle today.

Cai Lin will bid to erase Nurul Huda Abdullah’s 20-year-old national record of 4:17.86 set in the Seoul Olympics when she races in the 400m freestyle heats.
