Freelance model crowned Miss Cheongsam Malaysia 2007

KUCHING: Freelance model Lee Foong Ling, 20, was crowned Miss Cheongsam Malaysia 2007 here on Sunday night.

She beat 17 other finalists in what was her first pageant appearance to walk away with RM8,000.

College student Mastarareqha Tony was first runner-up and Form Five leaver Gan Ee Jin second runner-up.

They received RM2,000 and RM1,000 respectively.

Lee, who hails from Kuala Lumpur, was overcome with joy after receiving her crown from last year's winner Lim Lee Ching.

"I'm just so happy now. I did not think I would win because I was very nervous during the question-and-answer session.

"This is the first time I've entered a beauty pageant so I'm very happy," she said.

She now plans to take part in more pageants besides carrying on with her modelling career.

Mastarareqha, 19, wowed the crowd by introducing herself in Mandarin and then singing the popular Teresa Teng song "The Moon Represents My Heart" (Yue Liang Dai Biao Wo De Xin) in the talent contest.

"I can speak a little bit of Mandarin but it was a challenge for me to speak the language in front of so many people," the Kuching lass of Malay-Chinese parentage said.

Eighteen-year-old Gan from Malacca, who is waiting for her SPM results, said she was excited to finish in the top three even though she missed out on the title.
