ALOR SETAR: Kedah princess Datuk Seri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Sultan Abdul Halim heads a list of 62 people who will receive awards in conjunction with the Sultan Kedah Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah’s 81st birthday celebration.
Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz will be bestowed with the Orang Besar Empat award which carries the title Tunku Panglima Besar.

Universiti Utara Malaysia vice-chancellor Tan Sri Dr Nordin Kardi is among five people who will receive the Darjah Gemilang Seri Mahkota Kedah (DGSMK) which carries the title Datuk Wira.
The four others are deputy chief of Navy Laksamana Madya Datuk Mohamed Nordin Ali, Army field commander Lt-Jen Datuk Raja Mohamad Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor, former Armed Forces chief Lt-Jen (Rtd) Datuk Masood Zainal Abidin and Management and Science University president Prof Datuk Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid.
The investiture ceremony will be held at the Istana Anak Bukit audience hall today.
The Army’s Fourth Division camp commander Mej-Jen Datuk Zulkifle Kassim is the only recipient of the Dato Paduka Mahkota Kedah award that carries the title Datuk Paduka.
State Speaker Dr Abd Isa Ismail is among 38 people who will be conferred the Dato Setia Diraja Kedah (DSDK) award which carries the title Datuk.
The others include state exco member Amiruddin Hamzah, Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar, Sungai Petani MP Johari Abdul, CID deputy investigating director Senior Asst Comm (I) Shatar Abdul Jalil and 10th Paratrooper Brigade commander Brig-Jen Mohd Dalib Basir.
Minat Johan Sdn Bhd managing director Chong Chim Tiong, Kedah Medical Centre medical director and consultant physician Dr Ismail Yaacob, and Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital Respiratory Department head Dr George Kutty Simon will also get the DSDK award.
During the investiture ceremony, the Sultan will also confer the Setia Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah (SMS) award to Tunku Shazuddin Arif Tunku Sallehuddin and Syed Nasir Syed Abdullah.
Eleven individuals would be bestowed with the Jaksa Pendamai (JP). They include Baling MP Taib Azamudden Md Taib and Kuala Kedah MP Ahmad Kasim.
