The world is constantly being reshaped by rapid technological advancements, geopolitical shifts, and complex socio-economic challenges.
In this dynamic landscape, the need for leaders who can think critically, process information quickly and act confidently to navigate multifaceted issues has never been greater.
Recognising this urgent demand, Taylor’s University has launched Malaysia’s first Bachelor in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) (Honours).
This three-year programme is designed to equip students with the interdisciplinary skills to address global challenges and drive meaningful progress.
Addressing the critical skills gap
The World Economic Forum’s The Future of Jobs 2023-2027 report highlighted that 50% of companies prioritise critical thinking and leadership, yet many struggle to find graduates with these competencies.
Taylor’s PPE programme bridges this gap by combining academic rigour with real-world application.
Students will explore pressing issues such as governance, economic stability, sustainability and social justice, gaining a practical foundation to tackle complex socio-political and economic challenges.
Taylor’s University pro-vice-chancellor (external engagement) Professor Dr Ong Kian Ming shared, “In today’s dynamic world, graduates often lack the critical thinking and multi-perspective approach needed to tackle complex global issues.
“Knowing this, we have designed our PPE programme to combine academic excellence with industry engagement, equipping students with analytical skills, strategic foresight and ethical reasoning to drive progress in an evolving world.”
A standout feature of the programme is its distinguished Industry Advisory Panel (IAP), led by Prof Ong.
The IAP comprises renowned policymakers, economists, corporate leaders and academics, including former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin, former Damansara MP Tony Pua, International Islamic University of Indonesia Faculty of Social Sciences Prof Farish Noor, Institute of Democracy and Economic Affairs former chief executive officer Dr Tricia Yeoh, ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute senior fellow Dr Lee Hwok-Aun and Watchtower Advisory founder and managing director Shahril Hamdan among others.
This real-world exposure complements the academic learning, ensuring the Taylor’s PPE programme equips students to lead in a world that demands innovative solutions to complex problems.
Prof Ong explained, “This allows students to engage in policy discussions, corporate dialogues, diplomatic events and research opportunities.
“They can attend talks, curate conferences and even contribute to policy reports, gaining hands-on experience that goes beyond textbooks.”
Taylor’s University’s PPE programme director Dr Deboshree Ghosh emphasised, “Our strong industry ties ensure students gain practical knowledge and strategic decision-making skills.
“This prepares them for multi-industry career paths in politics, business and governance.”
The future of economy and policy
The PPE programme is far more than a pathway to politics. While some graduates may pursue careers in government or public service, the programme’s interdisciplinary nature opens doors to finance, consulting, media and even entrepreneurship.
“This programme is about training adaptable leaders who can drive progress across sectors,” explained Prof Ong.
“Whether crafting public policy, leading a corporate team or advocating for social change, our graduates will be equipped to make a tangible impact.”
In this era of automation and artificial intelligence transforming industries, the ability to think critically, communicate effectively and approach problems from multiple perspectives is more valuable than ever.
To make this transformative education accessible, Taylor’s University is offering a 100% scholarship on tuition fees for both April and September intakes, or an exclusive 10% bursary for the first cohort of the April intake.
Applications are now open for the April and September intakes.
