Empowering communities through Shariah-compliant solutions, promoting mindful spending and thoughtful giving
During the blessed month of Ramadan, Muslims focus on performing good deeds (amal), through fasting, solat fardhu, terawih, almsgiving (zakat and sedekah), spiritual growth and self-reflection.
Anchored in the principles of mindful intentions (niat), sincere actions and compassion, AEON Bank (M) Bhd (AEON Bank) embraces the core theme of ‘Niat di Hati, Semua Jadi’, reinforcing the belief that a good intention, no matter how big or small, if done right, can create a positive ripple effect.
Building on the philosophy to give back to the community and create meaningful impact, AEON Bank, in collaboration with its sister company AEON Co and the local non-governmental organisation Pertubuhan Kebajikan Masyarakat Penyayang (PERKEMP) Lembah Pantai, organised its Salam Prihatin Ramadan CSR initiative this year.
The initiative engaged over 400 family members from 100 B40 households in Perumahan Pantai Permai, Kuala Lumpur.
On Mar 11, AEON Bank transported 100 beneficiary family representatives to AEON Mall Taman Maluri to purchase their Ramadan groceries and essentials.
This activity aimed to bring joy and foster independence, allowing families to choose items tailored to their needs, whether for young children or multigenerational households.
Each family received a shopping allocation of RM300, with AEON Bank contributing a total of RM30,000.
AEON Bank employees also volunteered in assisting during the activity, particularly aiding senior citizens with physical limitations, ensuring mindful spending and maximised savings.
Promoting Shariah thought leadership
As part of its campaign to drive Shariah thought leadership and promote financial inclusion, AEON Bank hosted its inaugural Shariah Live! panel discussion on Mar 3, the second day of Ramadan, at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).
Moderated by public speaker Aniq Muhai, the dialogue on Digital Banking 101 featured AEON Bank Shariah committee chairman and board member Ustaz Wan Rumaizi Wan Husin, alongside AEON Bank chief Shariah officer Ustaz Ibrahim Mohd Hasan.
The event engaged over 800 students and university officials, educating them on the foundations of Shariah-compliant finance, the benefits of Islamic digital banking and its potential to positively impact communities.
The evening concluded with an AEON Bank-sponsored iftar at IIUM’s Masjid Sultan Ahmad Shah courtyard.
During the event, AEON Bank set up an engagement booth to help students activate their AEON Bank Savings Account-i, introducing many to Islamic digital banking for the first time.
Students who visited the booth also received exclusive AEON Bank merchandise.
