FOR a company to win four awards at the Star Outstanding Business Awards (SOBA) 2022, it would have demonstrated resilience, foresight and passion in its business – something that Rurutiki Sdn Bhd embodies in abundance.

With its holding company having more than 80 years’ experience in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry, the company founded Rurutiki seven years ago, embarking on its new journey as a homegrown e-commerce enabler that helps ambitious and emerging brands embrace the digital channel and tools for omnichannel success.

From a rented warehouse of about 1,114sq m in Kulai, Johor, in 2016, it has expanded to more than 7,804sq m in Puncak Alam, Selangor, in a space that it now calls its own.

Following the expansion, its employee count has gone from four individuals to a team of over 70, serving brands from various sectors such as in FMCG to the beauty care industry, food health and wellness.

“We collaborate with brands in managing their e-commerce operations using our proprietary systems and frameworks,” explained managing director Goh Xiao Yen, who also clinched the Outstanding Achievement award in the Female Entrepreneur Of The Year category for Tier 1.

The other awards include two silvers for Best in e-Retail and Best Green Initiative, as well as the coveted platinum for Best Use of Technology, which showcases what the company specialises in.

Rurutiki clients have access to various digital services that will assist them in their digitalisation journey by simplifying complex e-commerce front and back-office processes.

From offering real-time technology services, easy store management, warehousing, order fulfilment and all-encompassing brand management solutions, the company provides guidance and professional advice every step of the way.

“These digital solutions offer better business insights in automating and streamlining our clients’ e-selling processes for improved efficiency, reduced costs and enhanced online presence,” said executive director Corey Tan.

It also provides IT-integrated warehousing and order fulfilment services, with end-to-end solutions that are seamlessly integrated, from e-marketplace platforms to the last mile delivery services – providing all sales activities, stock movement and parcel information at one glance.

Rurutiki also seeks to drive sustainability, which can certainly influence its clients as they embark on their own digital transformation journey.

Local companies and MSMEs that adhere to sustainable practices will find it easier to work with multinationals, which certainly helps scale up their businesses.

One of the ways digital technology can achieve sustainable development is by reducing costs, improving management efficiency and improving labour productivity.

The digitalisation process will invariably include knowledge transference and inclusion of green methods, especially by incorporating green technology and methodologies in the implementation.

Bridging digital technology towards sustainability makes good sense, as both are significant disruptions that rode on the coattails of the Covid-19 pandemic and are still influencing the economic landscape worldwide today.

Within its own capacity, Rurutiki pursues a sustainable agenda with its initiatives of reducing paper usage and minimising its carbon footprint by embracing technology and digitalising its whole process flow.

Furthermore, it has embarked on a recycling programme and solar energy implementation.

Taking a step further, it also sources for and uses sustainable and recycled packaging materials for parcel packing, while reducing its reliance on single-use wrappers.

Rurutiki stands as Malaysia’s only appointed organisation to manage and operate Nestle’s e-store across all online platforms, which includes Shopee, Lazada, TikTok, Astro Go Shop and more, as well as being the official e-distributor for Nestle’s full range of offerings.

“We want to express our sincere gratitude towards Nestle Malaysia for their firm support and trust they have given to us throughout the years,” said Goh.

“Their expertise and urge to continuously explore new approaches are one of the main factors that result in our mutual success in e-commerce today.

“We look forward to continuing our strong and productive partnership, exploring new opportunities and driving continued growth together to achieve even greater success in the future.”

As the environmental, social and governance (ESG) agenda continues to shape today’s business environment worldwide, Rurutiki is committed to searching for better ways and methods to build its business that promote world sustainability.

Goh added that: “As we continue to grow and evolve, we are committed to building strong partnerships that are mutually beneficial and focused on achieving shared goals.

“We look forward to forging new partnerships and continuously creating innovative solutions that will drive growth and success for all parties involved.”
