Typically celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, the festival began a millennium ago to rejoice over good harvests.
Scholars believe that it first started during the reign of Song Dynasty founder Emperor Taizu (960-976).

This year, Malaysians get to welcome the mooncake festival together, after the pandemic put the celebrations on hold in the last two years.

Popular retailer AEON is adding extra zing to the occasion by creating a game show in conjunction with the mid-autumn festival.
Families can get together to watch AEON’s new game show, Win Big or Go Home, in which participants will pitch their salesmanship skills against one another on the nine-episode show hosted by the popular celebrity host and DJ K.K. Wong.
Win Big or Go Home will be held at selected AEON stores and streamed live on Facebook at 8pm starting on Aug 13 – the first round of the show was staged at AEON Mall Bukit Tinggi in Klang. The next episodes will be on Aug 18, 20, 25 and 27 and then on Sept 1, 3 and 6.
In this hybrid event, the audience get to listen to the participants who will act as influencers – recommending the many mooncake brands local and imported, flavours and variants available for purchase via the FB Live stream or at the stores where the show takes place.
Win Big or Go Home is a great opportunity to get the best mooncake deals along with the best gifts so the biggest winner may very well be the audience themselves.
There are prizes worth up to RM15,000 up for grabs, and the show gives the audience the opportunity to learn all about the variety of mooncakes from the contestants.
